Martin Britz is a South African entrepreneur, business executive and former military intelligence officer whose career has moved from national service and commissioned leadership to building technology and cybersecurity businesses across African markets.
Martin began his working life in the military in 1988. He completed National Military Service from 1988 to 1989 and served in the Permanent Force from 22 January 1990 until 31 May 2000, as a commissioned officer in Military Intelligence. He left military service with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Operational detail and the identities of others connected to this chapter are intentionally excluded from his public record.
His civilian career began in enterprise technology and regional operations. After serving as Operations Director at Sybase Software, Martin held leadership and founder roles across distribution, telecommunications and enterprise technology. Earlier in his civilian career he founded and ran Bustra Africa and was Managing Partner of Kees Beyers Imports & Distribution, both non-technology businesses. He later led SecureData Emerging Markets and Tarsus Emerging Markets before founding Cyber Security South Africa and Cyber Security Africa Distribution. The two companies were acquired together by CYBER1 in two stages, 50% in 2021 and the remainder in 2022, and Cyber Security Africa Distribution was rebranded Trinexia Africa in 2023, where Martin served as Managing Director of the Africa business through 2024.
Today, Martin is founder and CEO of Growth Hub Limited, a specialist cybersecurity distributor for Africa. Through the vendors it represents and its regional reseller partners, Growth Hub helps organisations find the devices and internet-facing systems they have overlooked, restrict access that isn’t needed, and limit how far an attacker can spread. The venture reflects Martin’s focus on the foundations of resilient enterprise: knowing what exists, who has access and who remains accountable.
Martin’s education includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from De Montfort University in the United Kingdom. His interests in governance, logic, ethics, artificial intelligence, systems thinking and decision science complement the lessons of operating across diverse African markets.
Endurance and the outdoors have been recurring themes throughout his life. Martin received national colours in men’s korfball in 1999. His documented record includes Two Oceans Ultra Marathon finishes, the Comrades Marathon, the Marathon des Sables and ten Cape Town Cycle Tours, earning a Green Number. He is a PADI Master Scuba Diver and Rescue Diver, a freediver and an RYA Competent Crew sailor. Agriculture, conservation and long-term stewardship are further areas of sustained interest.
